Death Cab For Cutie - "The Photo Album"
Fierce Panda Records

The first official UK release from Seattle-based Death Cab For Cutie just happens to be one of the best albums I've heard in the past few months. The band, as I'm informed in the press release, are "one of the geniune American underground successes of the new millenium" and on the basis of this, it's apparent that the string of venues they've sold out are no coincidence. The music on The Photo Album is that kind of intelligent indie-rock that only the Americans seem able to do. I try to avoid comparisons, but Death Cab... remind me in places of a more sensitive Grandaddy which can only be a good thing. There are some beautiful guitar melodies throughout the 10 tracks here and some fantastic lyrics that range from touching to geniunely amusing. As I had no prior knowledge of Death Cab For Cutie this has to be one the biggest surprises I've had in a long time. Try out for yourself and I guarantee you won't be disappointed. 8/10
